These Terms of Use govern your use of stephendeason.com, including its pages, downloads, newsletters, messages, and any features offered on it (the “Site”). The Site is operated by Alder Creek Editions LLC, a Georgia limited liability company (“Alder Creek,” “we,” or “us”). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
Some features, such as purchases, promotions, or events, may have additional terms shown when you use them. Those terms apply to that feature and control if they conflict with these Terms.
The Site is intended for adults 18 and older.
Everything on the Site, including every essay, post, book excerpt, and framework, is general information and the author’s opinion. It is not financial, investment, tax, accounting, legal, medical, mental health, or pastoral advice. Using the Site does not create a professional relationship of any kind between you and Alder Creek, Stephen Deason, or anyone else involved in the Site. Views expressed on the Site are the author’s own and do not represent any company, board, or other organization with which he is or has been affiliated.

If you are in danger or need medical help, call 911. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988. The Site, its comments, and any messages sent through it are not monitored for emergencies.
Essays and pages on the Site may be revised, corrected, or removed at any time, and positions may change over time. We do not promise that any content is complete, accurate, or current, and we have no duty to update it.
The content of the Site, including text, books, printables, images, designs, and logos, is owned by Stephen Deason or Alder Creek, or used under license, and is protected by copyright and trademark law. Except as these Terms allow, you may not copy, reproduce, distribute, publish, or create derivative works from any of it without our written permission. Quoting a short passage with credit and a link, for commentary, review, or discussion, is permitted.
Our books may be sold through the Site or through retailers such as Amazon. Purchases made through a retailer are governed by that retailer’s terms. For purchases made through the Site, prices, availability, taxes, shipping, and any refund terms are shown at checkout. Payments are handled by third-party payment processors, and we do not store full payment card numbers. Digital products are licensed to you for personal use and may not be shared, resold, or redistributed. Except as stated at checkout or required by law, sales are final.
If you sign up for a newsletter or other messages, you agree to give accurate information. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in any message. We may still send messages related to a purchase or request you made.
When you post a comment, send a message, answer a survey, or submit anything else to us (“Your Content”), you keep ownership of it. You give Alder Creek and Stephen Deason a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use, copy, edit, excerpt, publish, and display Your Content in connection with the Site and our books and other publications, without payment to you. We will not publish your full name with Your Content in a book or other publication without your permission.
Comments and other public posts are public. Do not post personal health information, contact details, or anything else you want kept private. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm that you have the right to share it and that it does not break any law or anyone’s rights. We may review, edit, refuse, or remove any of Your Content at any time, for any reason.
Some links on the Site may be affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something after clicking them, at no extra cost to you. The Site may also show advertising. A link or an ad is not an endorsement.
You may not use the Site to break any law; post anything unlawful, threatening, harassing, or infringing; send spam; interfere with or disrupt the Site or its security; access or copy the Site by automated means, including scraping content or collecting it to train artificial intelligence models, except as the law allows; or suggest that you, your organization, or any product or service is affiliated with or endorsed by Alder Creek or Stephen Deason when it is not.
If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, send a written notice by mail to the address in the Notices section. The notice must include: your physical or electronic signature; a description of the copyrighted work; a description of the material you claim is infringing and where it appears on the Site; your name, address, telephone number, and email address; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner. We may remove material and may end the access of anyone who repeatedly infringes.
The Site may link to, or use features from, websites and services run by others. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, practices, or availability. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.
The Site and all content, downloads, and products on it are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Alder Creek, Stephen Deason, and anyone involved in creating or operating the Site are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, arising from or related to your use of the Site, any content, download, or product from it, any book, or any service or organization mentioned on it, even if we were told such damage was possible. If any of us is found liable despite this section, total liability for all claims is limited to the greater of fifty U.S. dollars ($50) or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some places do not allow certain limits on liability, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
You agree to defend and hold harmless Alder Creek and Stephen Deason from any claim, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that arises from Your Content or your breach of these Terms.
We may suspend or end your access to any part of the Site, or change or discontinue any part of the Site, at any time and without notice.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or the Site will be decided only in the state or federal courts located in Fulton County, Georgia, and you and we consent to those courts’ jurisdiction. Either party may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
We may change these Terms at any time by posting a new version on the Site with a new “last updated” date. Changes apply from that date. Using the Site after a change means you accept the new Terms.
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, that part will be enforced to the fullest extent allowed and the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce any part of these Terms is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours. These Terms, any additional terms described in section 1, and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site.
