Stephen Deason
Stephen Deason writes fiction about the systems people fall through. His work follows families through the handoffs nobody owns, and the economics underneath them.
He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The OPA RASA Group, a social enterprise helping people build worth in recovery. Its companies and affiliates include OPA Home Care, OPA Skilled Nursing, and OPA Staffing. The OPA RASA Foundation has worked to place more than 700 people from disadvantaged backgrounds into a variety of careers.
He was previously CEO of GRYYT, a socially conscious MarTech firm, and has held C-level positions with three other technology companies. He sits on four nonprofit boards and the advisory boards of two startup technology and telecommunications firms.
Stephen came to this work sideways. He spent two years in medical school before turning to computer science and systems engineering, then earned an MBA and an MSc in Accounting from Emory University. At Emory, he was a Sheth Fellow at the doctoral level in business, economics, and psychology.
He also holds a BSc in Mathematics from UAB and is ABD-PhD in Business specializing in Accounting from Emory's Laney Graduate School. His research background is in experimental economics, with published work in Accounting Horizons. He presently pursues additional graduate studies in health care at The Johns Hopkins University.
He publishes through Alder Creek Editions.
